I welcome you to come and get excited with me as we plan to go to Sri Lanka. This is one of my most favourite places in the world, and the home of some of my dear friends, I have been a few times and still I can’t wait to go back.
The retreat will be an Ayurvedic themed retreat focusing all our yoga and meditations on this as well as our workshops to teach and share about it. Ayurvedic medicine (“Ayurveda” for short) is one of the world’s oldest holistic (“whole-body”) healing systems. It was developed more than 3,000 years ago in India. It’s based on the belief that health and wellness depend on a delicate balance between the mind, body, and spirit. I will add more information on this soon. I will also be giving a talk and workshop on Ayurveda on the retreat.
Located in one of the most beautiful parts on the south coast of Sri Lanka, set in a secluded jungle-like area, near the little and typical fisher town Tangalle. Hidden under leafy trees, the big cottages are perched on a slide hill, overlooking a gorgeous piece of the Indian Ocean.
The white-sand beaches surrounding the Resort, the clear water of the coral bay in front of it and the 30000 sq m hotel garden with thousands of tropical trees, plants and flowers, make a natural paradise of it.
The Hotel is 190 km distant from Colombo. You can book the transfer from Colombo Airport to the Hotel in one of the Hotels minibuses or an air taxi transfer offered by Sri Lankan Airlines. Transport will be offered, time, cost and details coming soon.
In addition to the beautiful venue and treatments, we will have three gorgeous vegetarian Ayurvedic meals per day an Ayurvedic treatment included in the price. However there will be lots of opportunity for extra treatments at a really affordable price, much cheaper than we are used to in the UK.
Also included will be a trip out to the Mulkirigala Rock Temples. I have been here and is where I took one of my iconic photos of me looking out over the top of the rock. I’ve added my personal photos from my trip back in 2011 when I went to my first yoga retreat alone. I was apprehensive but as soon as I landed and felt the vibe, the people, the vegetation, I felt like I was home and it holds a big piece of my heart.
Mulkirigala Raja Maha Vihara an ancient Buddhist temple in Mulkirigala, Sri Lanka. It has been built on a 205 m high natural rock, surrounded with another four rocks known as Benagala, Kondagala, Bisogala and Seelawathiegala. The temple has been formally recognised by the Government as an archaeological site in Sri Lanka.
The site comprises of seven smaller temples and has been constructed within five areas; the Siyambalamaluwa, the Lower Temple Compound, Bomaluwa, the Royal Temple Compound, and the Upper Temple Compound. There are also caves with figurines and murals within them Clamber in a sweat up the 500 or so steps and you’ll encounter a series of seven cleft-like caves on five different terraced levels. Housed in the caves are a number of large reclining Buddha statues interspersed with smaller sitting and standing figures.
Further on up, and perched on top of the rock some 206m from the base, is a small dagoba with fine views over the surrounding country. Temples, in some form or another, have been located here for over 2000 years, but the current incarnations, and their paintings, date from the 18th century. Nearby is a Buddhist school for young monks.
In the 5 nights that we have there you can also take any additional activities including the tea plantation tour. I’ve been to a few and cannot get enough. I highly recommend especially if you are a tea lover like me. Real, pure tea! Once you try it you won’t go back. I now have about 7 teapots (slightly addicted to teapots!) and brewing my fresh leaves at home.
The temple trip is included in the costs and this experience is not to be missed. You’ll get a feel for the culture and see the land. Tuk tuk rides will also be available to venture out when you want. I have been to this area before and can recommend some great things to do from a short Tuk Tuk ride to see how the ladies make beautiful carvings and wall hangings to Ayurvedic shops.
You may not want to do anything more because we will be ON the beach! we will have our villa with our pool with lots of room options to suit your budget.
I’ve picked this specific time of year to avoid the expense of Easter flights, Dubai holidays which can ramp up costs but most importantly to get the best weather!
You do not officially need jabs for Sri Lanka, nor a visa but if you prefer to opt for any jabs you can go ahead.
A mini bus will be available for pick up and drop off to and from the airport and will add more details on that soon but will be two pick ups one in the morning and one in the afternoon of the 25th. First come first served for the buses which host 6 people. Please contact me before you book your flights so that we can organise that together. There should be minimum 10 people for us to go ahead. I can’t go ahead without enough people so I will wait to get confirmations by end of Summer. So I’d recommend not booking flights before then… Transport to the villa will be approx £85 in total, one way, divided by the number of people taking the bus.
I know some people are extending their stay or stopping over in Dubai for a few days. If you decide to do that then let me know as I lived there for 8 years so can offer some tips 🙂 Some others are thinking of staying longer in Sri Lanka before or after so how about take advantage of Colombo and take a solo tour around for a couple of days and book a nice little hotel for a couple of nights through booking.com.

For those of you that don’t know me, I provide a gentle yoga which is geared more towards mindfulness and healing. There are alway options that I provide to take it up a level where you would like as the emphasis is following your own lead. Therefore it goes without saying that you don’t need to have done yoga before and this applies to all my classes. Feel free to check out my written testimonials and my video testimonials. You can see my sample videos compilation here.
Transfer payment is not included because people may choose different times and days to arrive. You may stay extra nights in the venue to get the best days for your flight costs, and I have booked starting from Wednesday as Wednesdays are the cheapest day to fly. Emirates are usually your best option with a stopover in Dubai or Muscat (Oman). You could always schedule in a pit stop in the UAE. I lived over there for 8 years so can recommend a couple of hotels and things to do that are not too far from the airport which I will add here.
